Vet uses Basic H & G with great results!

To Whom it many concern,

This is a personal testimonial about the wonderful Basic-G germicidal  cleaner. There are two employees at my clinic that are very sensitive to chemical odors. Since we have been using the Basic-G, there have been no complaints of headaches from chemical fumes. Basic-G is also a great cleaning product. The kennel help indicates that it removes dried blood better than any product that we have used in the past.

The clinic uses Basic-G in the mop buckets, so we are able to disinfect the floors of the clinic throughout the day. I personally use Basic-H to wash my hands between patients. In the past my hands have been dry, red, and cracked from washing with harsh soaps.
Basic-H doesn't strip the natural protective coating from one's skin. My hands are all healed. They aren't cracked or dry.

I have also been using Shaklee's nutritional products to help animals with allergies, and hip dysplasia. I have been quite happy with the results. Shaklee's Osteokinetics is the best glucosamine product on the market. It has worked better than I expected it to work in dogs with hip dysplasia.

Sincerely,
Molly C. Spicuzza, DVM

Be sure with Basic G because it is Great!

Basic-G©
Disinfects and deodorizes while it cleans

Shaklee Basic G germicide/cleaner is one of my favorite products, and one of the funniest to demonstrate. This is a great story from one of my downline distributors.

One of her customers was in a biology class and everyone was asked to bring in a cleaning product. They mixed each of the products at a water-to-cleaner ratio beginning at 1-1, then increasing the ratio and ending at a ratio of 1-100,000. (1 part cleaner to 100,000 water). When the experiment was over the instructor came to our customer and asked her about the product. The Shaklee Basic G was the ONLY product that grew no bacteria in every vial. In most of the products, the bacteria began to grow in even the strongest solution.

Shaklee Household Cleaners purchased for use in the Biosphere 2 Project

Thu, 9 Mar 2000 12:35:57 -0600

Shaklee Household Cleaners, primarily Basic-H and Liquid-L, were  purchased for use in the Biosphere 2 Project because they are earth-friendly products which contain no phosphates.  The Project was  trying to include many ecosystems within a relatively small area and  wanted to guard against phosphates entering their water system.

Additionally, Shaklee shampoos, moisturizers, and soap-free cleansing  bars were among a few of the personal care products used by Biosphere  participants.

Shaklee Household Cleaners, Personal Care Products, and Nutritional  Supplements have been used aboard the Cousteau Society ships, Alcyone  and Calypso.  Our products are used for cleaning decks, hulls, dishes,  and laundry on the Cousteau ships.  However, The Cousteau Society does  not endorse Shaklee products or any other products in their effort not  to commercialize the organization. We do not reference their use of our products in our marketing literature or sales aids, as we are committed  to maintaining their confidence that we will not exploit our relationship with them.

You may, however, feel free to contact two other organizations that use our products aboard ship: The Whale Conservation Institute at  617-259-0423 (contact Kim Marshall); and the Wild Dolphin Project at  407-575-5660.

We hope the information is helpful. (GM)

Mixing Household Chemicals Can Be Deadly

Here is an article from a weekly newsletter that is sent out by an oseopathic phyisician in Illinois. How nice that he recognizes a good product!!

Open your typical cupboard or cabinet and you'll find a mix of household cleaners - from bleach to ammonia to mildew remover. The trouble is many people who plan to do a hefty cleaning job think it's OK to mix these chemicals. The fact is they're wrong; in some cases, dead wrong.

Despite the warnings displayed in black and white on many bottles, the dangerous mixing of chemicals is not uncommon around the U.S. In fact, even without mixing chemicals, there are environmental dangers lurking in our homes. The average American household generates 15 pounds of household hazardous waste each year, according to the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC). "Our homes contain an average of three to eight gallons of hazardous materials in kitchens, bathrooms, garages and basements," the government agency reports.

When mixing acids such as toilet bowl cleaners or vinegar, chlorine gas is released. Likewise, the dangerous mix of bleach and ammonia-containing products releases chloramine gas. These gases can range from being
irritating to being actually corrosive, where they can actually burn your membranes and damage your lungs. Household products can irritate the muscles of the upper respiratory tract, creating symptoms similar to those of an asthma attack.

Experts recommend the following safe methods of handling household chemicals:

Use the least toxic product you can find.
Read the label and follow the directions.
Wear gloves and protective clothing if product is harmful when in contact with the skin.
Wear goggles if product can harm the eyes.
Do not wear contact lenses when working with solvents.
Stop using the product if you become dizzy, sick to your stomach or develop a headache.
For proper ventilation, it is best to use chemicals outdoors.
Do not smoke when using flammable products.
Never mix household products. Toxic fumes or explosions may result.
See your health care provider immediately if you suspect you have been poisoned or injured due to exposure to a household chemical. The bottom-line advice is to read warning labels when purchasing household chemicals.

COMMENT: Most people are relatively clueless when it comes to the toxic chemicals that are in their homes. They do not regard them as potentially dangerous chemicals. One can generally avoid most of these problems by
throwing away all commercial cleaners and replacing them with ones purchased from the health food store or from safe companies like Shaklee.

Bye. sjg

Climate Changes Spur Growing Health Concerns

PLEASANTON, Calif., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past decade, much of the discussion about global warming has focused on the environmental implications.  Until recently, the link between human health and climate change has been understudied.

"A United Nations-sponsored panel of over 2,500 scientists has concluded that global climate change has the potential to become one of the largest public health challenges of the new millennium," says Chris Jensen, Ph.D., Vice President of Scientific Affairs at nutritional supplement manufacturer Shaklee Corporation.

According to the National Academy of Sciences, some of the serious risks include more infectious diseases, an increased risk of respiratory illnesses such as allergies, asthma and emphysema, higher rates of skin cancer and possibly other cancers as well as a surge in heart attacks and strokes.

Overwhelming evidence indicates that human activities that emit CO2 and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere are contributing to the depletion of the Earth's protective layer of stratospheric ozone, leading to climate changes around the globe.  Dr. Jensen, an epidemiologist, cautions while more study is necessary to understand exactly what is going on, there is plenty of evidence that the only prudent action is to start immediately to lessen our impact on the environment.

"We must take steps to reduce our impact on the health of the planet," says Jensen. "In turn, we must provide our bodies with the resources they need to be as healthy as possible in the face of the increased challenges that exist today."

Jensen offers some easy-to-use tips to combat the health threats of global warming:
-- Eat a healthy diet.  A well-balanced diet provides your body with a defense force to help protect against the free-radical and oxidative threats of increased UV-B radiation.

-- Wear sunscreen.  Apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of  at least 15 for everyday use, and 30 for prolonged exposure to the sun.

-- Add it up. Visit www.shaklee.com and use the "Climate Impact Calculator."  Find out how much carbon dioxide your actions -- from driving to work to mowing a lawn -- produce over the course of a year, and how many trees it would take to pull that much carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

WHY SHAKLEE CLEANING PRODUCTS

In an article from the April 2000 edition of "Reader's Digest"

"SPRING CLEANERS BEWARE"

"Fumes produced by mixing ammonia and bleach products can cause life-threatening lung problems.  In a letter to the "New England Journal of Medicine", Dr. David A. Tanen and colleagues from Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix reported on a woman who used such a mixture to clean a walk-in freezer.

After 30 minutes she developed breathing problems that became so severe she needed and emergency tracheotomy.

When bleach and ammonia are combined, the doctors explain, they create a gas called chloramine.  Inhaling large amounts can irritate the tissue of the lungs and cause cell damage.  it can also lead to a buildup of fluid, which prevents the lungs from functioning."

Thank you for your inquiry about Basic G.

Basic-G is a concentrated quaternary ammonium-based germicide and cleaner.  This germicide disinfects and deodorizes as it cleans, and does not contain ingredients such as chlorine, phenol or glutaraldehyde.

All claims we make regarding the effectiveness of Basic-G are for hard non- porous surfaces with a contact time of ten minutes in the single dilution ratio of 1:256 (or ˝-oz. per gallon of water) in accordance with EPA requirements.

As Basic-G is a disinfectant, cleanser, and deodorizer, no additional products are needed.  In this respect, our germicide is an economical, labor-saving product.  From a safety point of view, Basic-G's multiple functions also eliminate any potential concern of accidentally mixing incompatible products and creating a dangerous mixture.

Basic-G  Germicide & Lysol- comparison

While we are aware that the manufacturers of Lysol offer a variety of disinfectants for use in the home, as well as other environments such as hospitals, we are not familiar with the exact formulations of these products.  For this reason, we are reluctant to do comparisons with other products of this type.

Generally speaking, however, disinfectants which are "hospital-grade" will contains tend to use much stronger
germicidal ingredients than household germicides, as Basic-G is.

In formulating Basic-G as a household germicide, we offered a balance of product strength against the type of ingredients used in the product. While our germicide is effective against a greater number of different types of pathogens than other disinfectants of the same type, it is not considered a "hospital-grade" product.  On the other hand, Basic-G does not contain chlorine (a water contaminant), phenol, glutaraldehyde, or other harsher ingredients which are often found in many disinfectants today.

Despite the fact that one of the Lysol products contains a main active ingredient similar to Basic-G, this indicates only that each product is quaternary ammonium-based.   Otherwise, the quaternary strength may differ as indicated by the different percentages on the product labels . Please keep in mind also that the additional ingredients (not usually listed on the product label) are completely different as are the disinfection claims.

Comparison with chlorine bleach

We have not done any comparison studies between Basic-G and bleach products.  Generally speaking, most bleach products contain chlorine. In addition to being hard on the hands, and on clothing, chlorine is a water contaminant.  Bleaches are used extensively because they work extremely quickly, and are inexpensive.  However, many of these types of products are not EPA-registered, and therefore, they cannot make any
specific claims on their labels about their effectiveness.  You should be aware of the fact also that chlorine can form chlorine gas in alkaline (pH greater than 7) solutions, and chloramines in acidic (pH less than 7) solutions.

Highly concentrated

As Basic-G  is a special use highly concentrated product, the ingredient functionalities are much stronger than is the case with normal-strength cleaners.  Basic-G is toxic in a concentrated state and non-toxic when diluted according to label directions.

We are required to include statements on our label describing our product as a Highly Concentrated Germicide, as well as alerting the consumer to the Danger if this product in misused.  The Precautionary Statements on the back of the label deal at length with the Hazards to Humans and Domestic Animals, as well as emphasizing the Corrosive nature of our product.  We recommend consumers read the information on the label thoroughly before using this product.  Other EPA-registered disinfectants will require similar warnings as are found on the label of
Basic-G.

Not readily biodegradable

While the cleaning ingredients in Basic-G are readily biodegradable, the germicidal ingredients, in common with all germicides, are not.  For this reason, we have never claimed that Basic-G is completely biodegradable and the labeling of our product reflects this fact. However, these ingredients do break down and become inert after use, or
when disposed of according to directions.

Residual effectiveness

We make no claims regarding the residual effectiveness of our germicide after disinfection as we have no scientific data to support it.  Once a hard non-porous surface is thoroughly disinfected with Basic-G, the area
will remain pathogen-free until it is contaminated again.

Best wishes for good health.
